Description of the Itinerary


Day 1. Tuesday / Cancún / Chichén Itzà / Mérida

Meeting at your hotel in Cancun or Riviera Maya. We will go towards the center of the peninsula for the inspection of the unique and unequaled Mayan archaeological zone – Chichen Itza. This ancient city is one of the Seven New Wonders of the World and World Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. Great constructions, the Pyramid of the Feathered Serpent or Kukulkan, Temple of the Warriors, the world’s most famous ball court Pok Ta Pok, Temple of the Jaguars, Observatory and other temples presented to you in its form original. Then visit the Sacred Cenote. Lunch at the restaurant. We will continue the trip to Merida followed by a panoramic tour of the city better known as the “White City”, which has colonial houses, as well as houses dating back to the beginning of the century in Arabic, French and Italian styles. These houses have witnessed all the wealth that has been generated thanks to the culture of sisal.
Stop in the Zócalo de Mérida, where visitors can admire the main monuments of the city, such as the Cathedral, the Government Palace, the Municipal Palace and Francisco Montejo. Check in at the Holiday Inn or similar.

Day 2. Mérida / Uxmal / Campeche

Breakfast. Visit the archaeological zone of Uxmal that means “built in three stages”, and is a typical example of the classic and postclassic Mayan period. According to the stories, Uxmal still has numerous legends. Thus, legend has it that the Pyramid-temple was built by the fortune teller in a single night, and that in the city still live forest guards called alushes. Subsequently, the route continues towards Campeche, which is the capital of the state of the same name. Check in at Plaza Campeche Hotel or similar. In the afternoon, a brief visit to the old city, the fortress and its towers built to protect the city from pirate attacks. Day 3. Campeche / Palenque

Departure to Palenque. Check in at Ciudad Real hotel or similar. Pause for lunch, and in the afternoon the tour continues with the visit to the archaeological site of Palenque. The ruins of Palenque are considered an important Maya archaeological site. The ancient city is situated in the heart of the forest at the top of the hills. Next to a stream, in the morning, the ruins are under the thick fog, where you can hear the roar of a jaguar and howls of howler monkeys. The combination of nature and ancient ruins give this place a special energy. You will hear some of the legends and traditions of the city.

Day 4. Palenque / Yaxchilán / Palenque

6:30 am: Departure to Corozal on the Mexican border. Arpoximately two and a half hours of travel. During the route you can admire landscapes of abundant vegetation. At the end of this tour we will continue with a boat ride along the Usumacinta river for about an hour towards the ancient Mayan city called Yaxchilán, which is in the middle of the jungle. Yaxchilán is a quiet place, where silence is only broken by howler monkeys and the birds that fly around. Its luxurious palaces and numerous temples seem to be protected and magically secured by the deep surrounding forest.
Yaxchilán was built between 200 and 900 AD. The city was ruled by Escudo-Jaguar (Shield Jaguar) in the year 725; Expanded its territory after three marriage alliances and many wars. The Maya were well aware of their history, and engraved on stones that describe the events of their ruling class. Thanks to those engravings that know the first 300 years of Mayan history. At the end of this wonderful visit, the tour will continue upstream again to Corozal for lunch in a rustic restaurant on the river bank. After lunch return to Palenque.

Day 5. Palenque / Chicanna

Morning departure to Chicanná which is located in a spectacular area of the River Bec, which owes its name to Mayan style architecture in particular and where visitors can admire this recently discovered archaeological site. Arrival and check-in at the Eco Village Chicanná hotel, surrounded by the impressive Mayan jungle and facing Chicanná. Its name means “House of the mouth of the serpent”. This site was discovered in 1967 and stands out for its doors marked with masks in the form of animals; Structure II is quite special because of its huge zoomorphic mask that probably represents Itzamna, God of the Sun. Day 6. Chicanna / Calakmul / Chicanna

After an hour’s drive along the main highway, we will cross the largest biosphere reserve in the country: Calakmul, which is the only real high jungle of the Yucatan peninsula. It is home to five of the six species of wildcats in America, as well as over 230 species of birds and a wide variety of flora. It is possible to see an incredible diversity of flora and fauna as you travel along this route. Finally we will arrive at the archaeological zone of Calakmul, considered one of the most important that is approximately 25 kilometers from the border with Guatemala. Hundreds of stelae (monoliths) surround this region that clearly shows its Mayan dominance. At the top of one of its largest monuments, visitors can admire the “green sea” of the huge Mayan biosphere. The visit ends with a break for lunch. Back on the main road and before arriving at Chicanná we will turn aside to visit the magical archeological site of Balamkú, where there is a great relief of the people of the Mayan royalty and jaguars. Day 7. Chicanna / Cancun

Departure in the morning. Visit to Laguna de Bacalar also known as the “Laguna de los Siete Colores”, thanks to its water that reflects several colors such as turquoise and jade, in its entire 50 kilometers. Lunch. At the end we will leave Cancun and / or Riviera Maya according to your reservation.
